Translation Objects: Early ideas

Site specificity

Does site specificity apply in the Graduate Gallery proposal? What meaning can be derived from the interaction between that specific space and the artefacts that we are proposing to construct?

Height of interactive stations

How should we handle interactive stations when visitors can be viewing the installation at different heights? Or would this not matter if “[t]he technique of art is to make objects ‘unfamiliar’, to make forms difficult, to increase the difficulty and length of perception because the process of perception is an aesthetic end in itself and must be prolonged”? (Shklovsky, 2004, p. 16 as cited by Dziekan, 2012, p. 185)

The solution as envisioned by Ambrose:
Interactive stations are mounted on pedestals of different heights, so that people in wheelchairs will be able to interact with the stations at eye level.

The solution as envisioned by Qi:
Interactive stations are mounted on height-adjustable swivel arms, so that people of any height will be able to interact with the stations at eye level.
